Had a little run this afternoon in the glorious September sunshine.  It was very enjoyable and it’s got me thinking I could do with some encouragement please.

Money can’t buy the joy of running

This is more-or-less a route which I have run many times before.  It is fairly pleasant, flat and mostly traffic free.  This run is 4 miles, a mile longer than I have been used to lately and nothing like the kind of running I have done before.

As it is so familiar, it was easy for my mind to wander….

  • everything just came together.  My running form was fine, my pace was pretty consistent and I was fairly comfortable throughout
  • I said “thank you God” and I was about half way.  It was starting to feel a little bit like my running a couple of years ago and much to be grateful for
  • I remembered the real joy I have had from running before.  I would listen to my breathing, my footsteps, being aware of my muscles working in a supremely co-ordinated Wayne it was all coming together very nicely
  • In my deepest thoughts a few days ago, I wondered how much money I would give if I could be a good runner again, to run another marathon in under 4 hours. Of course, money can’t buy this kind of thing and yet it doesn’t happen by chance either.
  • This is the third run this week (normally I do just one run) and I feel very good.  My body seems to be handling this very well now.  In recent times exercise I have been totally wiped me out for several days of real fatigue
  • Can I keep this up?  What do I need to help me maintain this progress?  The answer is God’s grace and perhaps some encouragement from some of my friends.  Now things are looking up enormously!

I do hope and pray I can now really start improving my health and fitness.  I have the time nowadays and things are looking good!

In a week’s time I have my regular appointment with the kidney consultant. Beforehand I visit the hospital for some blood tests and this time I’m having the works – cholesterol etc to get a better picture of what’s going on.

I suspect my cholesterol is going to be high as I’ve been eaten a lot of cheese lately!  Before it has been very satisfactory so it’ll be interesting to see.

I am always keen to see what my creatinine and eGFR readings are.  These are the main measurements of kidney performance.  My gut feel is that they might be improving a little!

Below is a photo from a marathon I ran.  It is at Milton Keynes and my time was about 3 hours 50 minutes.  I was very pleased by that as my pace was pretty consistent throughout and I felt quite good afterwards, with recovery being much better than before.  I need to see this to remind myself how much I want to do this again!!
