The ups and downs of wearing glasses

Although it is true about there are some ups and downs of wearing glasses, on the whole I hate them.  I hate them for many reasons, most of all is how they tend to fall to pieces at the most inconvenient time.  Below I make mention of how Boots Opticians come to my rescue.

It was about a week ago when my 2015 glasses fell to pieces for the last time, it was fatal.  One of the little welds attaching the nose bridge thingy and the frame around one of the lenses snapped off.  Possibly something to do with me often stuffing them into pockets, sitting on them and treating them with much abuse.

To make matters worse, my spare pair also fell to pieces a day or so later, this time a tiny screw had broken off for the last time.  And then even worse was the thought of being without glasses in my daughter’s wedding – not being able to sing the hymns in church or read my notes for my father-of-the-bride speech.

There was nothing else I could do, other than visit my local opticians.  I did have a recent prescription from some independent but rather distant opticians, not far from where I used to work.  The prescription did the trick, it was from February and therefore my eyes were unlikely to have changed much in that time.

I chose some glasses, two pairs, the paperwork was done and I paid.  I put in a special plea for a swift service, if possible, with the rapidly approaching wedding.  To my amazement the glasses arrived on the day of the wedding and both are a perfect fit!  They pulled out all the stops to make sure they arrived quickly and they phoned me the minute they arrived.

This really was outstanding service from Boots.  They really had gone the extra mile to rush the delivery.  While it was Anna (picture) who I saw most of, there was undoubtedly a team of others all working to make things happen.

So thank you Boots Opticians here in sunny Dunstable.  You saved the day!  This meant I could read the Order of Service at my daughter’s wedding and I managed to see my notes for giving my father-of-the-bride speech.  It all worked out well, though of course my daughter was squirming a bit and probably wished I had no glasses and kept the speech to the bare minimum.

Mind you, I still hate wearing glasses.
