The pointless Taylors Lazy Sunday coffee

Taylor’s Lazy Sunday coffeeThis is not the kind of review I thought I was going to write; instead the rather pointless Taylors Lazy Sunday coffee has been a huge disappointment.

I was kind of looking forward to a nice gentle and easy going coffee, just as it says on the packet.  I had some anticipation of some mellow, smooth and soothing coffee.  Instead it is a bland coffee, not even very “coffee” tasting.

Taylor’s difficultly is missing how we can have a light, mellow coffee which still has a richness and flavour to it; sadly this misses that by a mile.  It’s like I’ve not really had any coffee at all, or perhaps even worse it reminds me of my mother’s weak Nescafé made with boiled milk.

I have tried increasing the amount of coffee I use for each mug but that does little apart from raise the cost of each cup.

So all in all, a bland coffee lacking in any richness.

Ideal for:

Delicate types, those prone to week-long insomnia.

Footnote: Black Goo cafe

So onto other coffee related things and nothing to do with the above coffee.  Instead this is something really quite good.

Yesterday I went to meet a friend at the  Black Goo Cafe in Berkhamsted.  Sure we had a pleasant time, just before they closed.  It is a nice place above an antique shop, on the main High Street and in a kind of loft with an eclectic range of furniture and an arty feel.  Nice staff too, which are all as nice as the place itself.

I ought to have taken a couple of photos and written a proper, positive review.  There I had a really nice house Americano followed by a mango, orange and kale smoothie (now that’s an interesting combination!).  Now that is drinking coffee nearly at its absolute best – nice surroundings, decent coffee to slowly savour and anticipation of the next at every stage!

What could have improved it?  Hard to say, perhaps more time to enjoy something to eat, less time feeling awkward not wanting to wake a chap sat within arm’s reach (I suggested he needed more caffeine).  A nice balmy evening with a saxophone or a Tom Waits ballad  wafting around would make it perfect.
