Yesterday I went for a nice 4.6 mile run. Loved it! Some of the time I was on a kind of autopilot, reflecting on some runs I’ve had in the past. Some I remember well and I realised how I have never, ever regretted going for a run. Sometimes I end up having snot all over my face, or mud, or both. Other features include:
- Tripping over. Done this a few times, no broken bones but then running is said to strengthen bones. A few grazes but nothing bad, all healed up now
- Have run in horrible weather – sometimes heavy rain, high winds, snow, blizzards. Sometimes these can be really exhilarating!
- Got lost. Happened quite a few times. Hate it.
- Fell off a gate. Yep it happened to me, I climbed up a five bar gate, briefly sat on the top and fell backwards.
- Run through floods, streams, muddy fields
- Run so hard up a hill I thought my lungs were going to explode
- In a race, didn’t realise the finish line was further away so I sprinted only to be over taken by loads of other runners who knew where the real finish line was
- Been chased by dogs (I normally run towards their owners, so they can take charge of their wayward dog)
- Been plastered in mud, from head to foot. Brilliant fun!
- Set off with lots of worries and problems on my mind. After a good run I’ve got everything sorted in my mind!
Sometimes I need to remind myself of the incredible benefits of running, both physically and mentally, as a way of getting me out of the house for a run.
Sometimes I don’t always feel like it but it makes such a difference. Now my energy levels seem to be doing well, back to normal, I really am enjoying running once again!
Just need a new pair of running shoes…..
