My weekly update and the windsurfing haul. Thankfully a slightly quieter week, although we did enjoy travelling with Hannah to collect the windsurfing haul you see. Otherwise some runs, blood tests, art, serving up 60 Sunday lunches and the like.
Hannah (my youngest daughter) has a good eye for a bargain, especially in her sailing related world. She had managed to bag five sails and five boons for £36 via eBay. Amazing. Furthermore the seller was offering her 3 surfboards as part of the deal but Hannah didn’t want them. Me, I was relived as I can already see the garage or garden shed becoming her store room.
In the meantime, here they are in our dining room. They need a good clean and drying off properly before they are stored. Oh wait a minute, Hannah is away this week….. Mum and Dad to the rescue!
When we collected said haul, we were only about 40 minutes drive from Portsmouth. So we drove down to visit the lovely North family who Hannah used to lodge with. She played Doctors and Nurses with their girls while Rachel and I had a bracing walk along the seafront at Southsea. It just didn’t seem the same; we could never imagine the winter there as it was always beautifully sunny and warm whenever we visited Hannah there before.
Sunday lunch was fun. It was our turn to help serve up Sunday lunch in the church Coffee House and we had about 60, perhaps a few more. On the menu were meatballs and spaghetti. We did, however, get a serving ourselves and it was delicious. We do like being able to serve in this way, especially if there is chance to chat to folk or at least to enable others to chat while they eat.
Thursday was a board meeting for the charity I’m involved with. I quite enjoyed it and any feelings of being at work again are washed away by that feeling of being valued there. I do feel thankful for having been welcomed so much and I hope that I can make a positive contribution there; so far, so good.
On Friday I had some blood tests taken for analysis at the hospital, along with a urine sample. The appointment with the Renal team is this coming Thursday and I’m really looking forward to it. I feel a frank, succinct and plain talking conversation coming on.
With running, I have felt pretty good in general and you might have seen my previous post about running every day in December. I did the Parkrun on Saturday with my friend Dave, followed again by coffee and toast at our house. I can see this might grow and grow, so that’ll be nice.
I have mentioned before my usual dread of winter hasn’t struck at all. I am appreciative of the changing seasons more these days and quite like to coziness of the winter so fat. This does lead to some difficulties at home as I prefer the house to be hot. Rachel tolerates this and Hannah hates it. So we sometimes need to carefully monitor the thermostats on the radiators.
I think I might be turning into a tropical runner bean at this rate!
