The briefest of weekly updates from the dusty museum (our new home). You see, if looking after my mother-in-law wasn’t enough, we now have my mother visiting!
- The washing machine seems to have been running continuously as Rachel goes through decades of her Mum’s clothes. That was until it got blocked and we figured out how to clean the filter out (see above photo)
- Likewise the tumble dryer has been on over-time. You don’t see many gas fired tumble dryers these days, do you?
- My last blog post, about returning to church, has apparently raised eye brows
- We chuckle when we can’t find each other in the house; it’s not even a huge mansion but the extra elbow room is enjoyable
- Still waiting to have our hob and oven installed. This is getting us rather cheesed off with freezer food
- We are now into a steady routine of carers and befrienders coming in
- We are pleased with our sitting room and the decor. I am now encouraged to continue being adventurous with colour elsewhere
- I am not so sure about the winter temperatures. I always enjoy keeping our home at 25c but we would struggle to achieve that here. Besides, heating here costs £2,000 a year so we are looking to improve the insulation without spoiling the look of the house
- I have started decorating a bedroom which will become Hannah’s bedroom. She arrives in a few weeks
- We have had a mixture of visitors (carers, tradesmen etc) and the wearing of face masks is variable as is the desire to achieve social distancing. Hummmmm.
- We tread carefully. As Grandma becomes more needy, we are very conscious how we have invaded. We know and understand the realities and implications of not doing so, we don’t think she has grasped this. Change is difficult for many, especially older folk and we therefore tread carefully and with love
- Upon clearing clutter Rachel will often be heard saying
You never know when you will need a life time supply of……
More to follow on that!
