In my weekly update I have to say May is the very best time of year! Just a brief update this week but it really is one of joyfulness as this has to be the nicest time of year.
During this last week we have spent some time in the garden and this has been delightful. I have weeded the small vegetable patch and I’ve planted some courgettes and some runner beans (what else could I possibly plant?). It has been quite therapeutic and restful, even though it has been hard work at times. Lifting, stretching, bending over, twisting, you name it, I’ve done it.
Thankfully my mother seems to have got through her dose of Covid. I have been quite worried about her but I think she has been well supported by the latest booster vaccine and some wonderful neighbours.
Yesterday’s Parkrun was okay. I managed to go a little faster, even though I needed to walk for a couple of minutes in the last lap. I am so conscious of my body slowly getting some fitness back – just as well as I do feel very creaky. Post run coffee and toast took place as usual with my Parkrun buddies.
Speaking of running, I had my last session of physiotherapy on Thursday. To be honest, I was a bit ambivalent before I started, not being sure it would bring any benefit. And yet it seems to have worked very well. Although my foot isn’t completely better, it is much improved. These are my “instructions” given to me by James, the physio:
- continue standing on one foot while brushing my teeth, waiting for the kettle to boil etc
- no more than two 30 minute runs a week until completely better
- use ice to lessen any post-run inflammation or pain
- use paracetamol if needed; important to keep all of those bones, ligaments, muscles and tendons moving
I am so much looking forward to my forthcoming holiday to NYC. Everything hinges on getting a clear Covid test beforehand!
