Looking back on 2024 has been a lovely thing to do. We feel very blessed. At the time of writing we are expecting our second grandchild to arrive and this may have to be the focus of another post in a while. In the meantime, a few numbers and thoughts on 2024.
The year in numbers
Health
- Foot injections – 1 (this has enabled me to start running again, not completely pain free though)
- Urinary Tract Infections (UTIs) – Lots (but always I managed to “out drink” the infection. I’m thankful for those dipstick things I can get from Amazon)
- Times I used private healthcare – 2 (1 dentist, 1 hospital)
- Root canal dental treatment – 1
Travel
- Miles driven by car – 20,000+ miles
- Cars bought – 1
- Average MPG fuel consumption in the new car – 60mpg (in winter this has dropped to 53mpg)
- Overseas travel – 1 (I can’t believe I have not been more!)
- Lake District visits – 2
- Trips to Cornwall while feeling really awful and stayed in hotel for most of the time – 1
- Exhibitions at the NEC – 2 (photography and outdoorsy stuff)
- Trips to London – Lots
- Number of rides in an old steam train while eating a 3 course lunch – 1
- Parking tickets – 1 (a good result compared to some years!)

- Number of blog posts in 2024 – 56
- Most popular blog post in 2024 – How am I meant to feel at 56 has been viewed 4,700+ times
- Increase views on 2023 – 10%
Politics
- Freedom of Information requests regarding absent Conservative Councillor who still claims his full allowance – 1
- Weeks taken for Conservative MP to reply to my letter asking a simple question – 6
Misc
- Maximum number of people sleeping in our house on one occasion – 10
- Number of months our Ukrainian guests have been with us – 18 (sadly the situation is rather bleak)
- Most people around our dining room table – 15
- Church courses hosted -2 (Alpha course and The Bible Course)
- Wasp nests removed from here at the Quirky Museum- 2
