Hospital discharge confusion

Talk about confusion. Everything was looking good for my discharge today. Blood tests heading the right way, urine flowing through my kidneys nicely with the colour returning to normal.

My discharge letter has apparently been prepared. Someone was lined up to give me a lesson in catheter care and to remove the Cannula from my hand. The junior Doctor had even shaken my hand and wished me well. After waiting for a few hours and by this time there had been a change in staff, I asked when I might be sent home. The nurse went and checked, then told me my blood tests needed to be reviewed again by another Doctor. You can imagine I felt a bit upset at that.

The main thing is that I’ve been fixed for the time being, which is good. In the grand scheme of things there’s little consequence to staying in again for another night. Having said that I can’t help but feel very disappointed but I suppose these things often happen for a reason which we can’t always see at the time. Nevertheless I am feeling a bit “poor old me”.
