We really know how to celebrate in style! Today is the day I have handed in my resignation and we decided to celebrate with a bar of chocolate. Just three months to go!
I wrote the letter last night. Today at work I scanned it so I could send it by email to my manager. I left it a couple of hours before I wrote the covering email and hesitated a little more, just wanting to do the right thing. My mouse was well aimed at the send button and my clicking finger was hovering over the mouse, ready to click. It hovered for a while and then I did it! Yep I had emailed off my resignation.
Since then I have spoken to my manager and agreed I will personally tell my colleagues who I line manage. We have a team meeting next week and I’ll announce it then, right at the start. After that I will let other people know.
While it felt a weird, strange and surreal thing to do, I have a growing sense of peace about it. Rachel and I know it is for my/our well being and we are in a position to do this, so why not? I am so thankful.
In a way it is frustrating and difficult in having to give three months notice.
I can tell you this early retirement lark is not about watching daytime TV and getting fat. Already there’s quite a list of things I’d like to do, all based at home. The beauty of doing this now is being able to push a few doors, see which ones open and see where things lead. Quite exciting!
