Our food glossary

Compost
Compost

In our house we seem to use an alternative language for some of our food, hence our food glossary.  This works fine for us and there’s never any misunderstandings.   Having said that, we do cause a few raised eye brows when we have some friends around and lapse into using our own language.

I thought I’d list these here and this post might be listed as a key post as the blog develops as it might explain the language used in some posts.

Gravel – museli

Compost – salad

Pond weed – watercress, from our own garden pond

Toenails – celery (yes I know, this is a really disgusting term!)

Street food – windfall fruit used for homemade jam (term coined by Mrs Groovy)

White water – skimmed milk

Muddy water – ground coffee

Dodgy white stuff – sugar
