Eager beaver readers will already know about the garage makeover; I now have a garage which is being decorated in pink and white. Yep, pink and white. There’s also some lilac in there and I apparently have an offer of purple blinds. A ‘work in progress’ and some other thoughts on things this week follows.
Why we are ignoring Government advice
So on Thursday the Prime Minister announced the five conditions for easing the Lockdown had been met, thus allowing some of the rules to be softened. We have decided to maintain, mostly, our own Lockdown, thus ignoring the guidelines.
The Thursday broadcast seemed very subjective with lots of “we’re confident the infection rate has come down enough” and “being led by the science”. We think it is too early to be playing such a game of Russian roulette and we need more reassurance before we are truly back in circulation. We also note some of the experts have queried the latest Government viewpoint. Hey ho….
Therefore, we continue to keep a low profile and will need to take time to consider what we can learn from the Coronavirus so far, in case we have a second or third wave.
Visiting my mother once again
On Saturday I drove to Weston-super-Mare to visit my mother once again. Spending 6 or 7 hours driving in order to see her for a few hours? Yes it is worth it, without question.
As before it seemed odd just sitting outside her patio door for several hours. We had some lovely conversations, reflecting on the past and weighing up the future.
We acknowledged how we have so much to be thankful for when the rest of the world seems to be going crazy. Of course our lives are dominated by the Coronavirus restrictions and we have a government which is “questionable” at the moment. The Chinese are flexing their muscles in Hong Kong and President Trump is just plain weird.
Mum’s neighbours are being very kind and her immediate neighbours have since sorted out a video call on their smart phone for mum to experience this wonder of modern communications. Impressive as it is for her, I doubt if she will embrace the concept and invest in the technology herself.
Back to the fluffy pink and white garage
From time to time I have a clear out of the garage. Each time I fill the wheelie bin and Rachel retrieves a lot of it in her gatekeeping role.
However the remarkable thing is how we have pulled together and cleared out so much stuff! We still have more to do but it has been so encouraging to see our wheelie bin overflowing. It is so heavy, I will have difficulty in moving it to the pavement for tomorrow morning’s collection.
Some painting still needs to be done and that’s fine. It doesn’t need to be rushed; Hannah is enjoying doing a little each day.
For now, I’m still getting used to the idea of my new fluffy pink and white garage….
