Weekly update – with sniffs, colds and no Covid

Me, photographing Margaret for the Toddington People project

I was convinced I’d picked up Covid.  Thankfully only a spell of sniffs, colds and absolutely no Covid.

First sign was feeling achy. Every limb, every joint felt achy.  Even my eyebrows were achy.  Then there was the runny nose, the sneezes.  Then the next stage was coughing and coughing.

I tested on the first day – negative.  The next day – negative.  The third day – still feeling awful but also being mindful of our lateral flow tests being just 75% accurate – tested again – and negative.  Left it for a few days, still wondering what the odds were of having Covid and worse still giving it to my mother who has come to stay. Still negative but starting to feel markedly better.

Even at the best of times I think I’m a grotty patient.  Plus we have had such gorgeous weather which I feel I’ve not been able to enjoy has all conspired to be a grotty Easter.

There was a wedding of two lovely folk at our church on Saturday. Our eldest daughter, Becky, had been hired as a photographer and I so much wanted to go.

But I was grounded.

Mope, mope, mope, mope, mope, cough, sneeze and mope again.

Another highlight of the week, and I do mean that it was a real highlight, was photographing Margaret Tilstone for my Toddington People project.

Arrangements had been made through Avril, who is a member of her support team and who manages her diary.  Now that does sound very grand, doesn’t it?  I was keen to photograph Margaret in her natural surroundings which could either include her house, complete with all of her gadgets and gizmos, or in her garden.  That seemed the most fitting since Margaret is a biologist by profession and has always had a keen interest in anything horticultural.

Margaret is also one of those folk who has a certain presence and authority.  When she speaks, people stop and listen.  Despite being 90 years old and with a number of disabilities, she still coordinates the local U3A Antiques group and never ceases to engage people and provide a stimulating discussion.

So all in all a strange week and an even more odd Easter.  One of being grounded, feeling poorly and where I think it has affected the time for the whole family.  Nevertheless it has been nice to have my mum come to stay, along with Hannah coming home and being joined by Becky and David, so all was not lost.
