Weekly update – settling into village life

Yesterday Rachel and I volunteered to be car parking stewards at our local medical centre, all to do with the Coronavirus vaccines.  We have had an electrical shock and I’m running again.

Just a quick post.  Yesterday Rachel and I volunteered to be car parking stewards at the local medical centre as it was being used as a vaccination centre.  Doing this little bit of volunteering took our mind off feeling too glum with Rachel’s mum’s funeral coming up.

Although it was pretty cold, we remain cheerful and managed the job alright.  When I say ‘alright’ we avoided creating complete gridlock – believe me, there was huge potential for this!

Thankfully lots of organisation had taken place beforehand and it ran smoothly.  Lots of people coming out said ‘thank you’ and expressed their appreciation.

Mind you, we were well equipped.  Not only did we have high viz tabards, we had walkie talkies which were good fun.  Besides, we discovered this inferred a certain amount of power!  This was so unexpected, everyone did exactly as we said.

An electrical shock!

Please don’t worry – we haven’t been electrocuted.

Instead we discovered the latest costs in keeping the Dusty Museum, sort of, warm.  Now we are paying a little over £300 a month!  It’s not as if we have reached the 25c I normally like but when the weather has been below zero, we have left the heating on through the night.

We will seriously need to look at improving the insulation and a few other steps to improve our energy efficiency.

Running again!

Yep, so far this year I have managed a little run a few times each week, just 2 or 3 miles each time.  Thankfully the jolly old plantar plantar fasciitis is behaving itself and I’m not wanting to push my luck by over-doing it.  So building up my fitness is mostly about building up the strength in my left foot, making sure that tendon doesn’t get damaged again.

I long for the time when I can happily go running for 60-90 minutes once again; there’s some lovely routes around here.

Funeral

Tomorrow we say farewell to Rachel’s mum.  The local Rector has been lovely to us, we do appreciate her concern and Christian love along with the support shown to us by many others.  I dare say I’ll more about this again soon.
