Moving through life's seasons
This week has been extraordinary in experiencing what could be the best and worst of the NHS. So, getting straight in….. The worst As I was discharged from hospital, I was told my prostate operation would be done as a matter of urgency.
The withdrawal symptoms can be quite profound. Naturally I’m talking about the withdrawal symptoms from running. Yesterday I found myself running again – after 3 weeks. Yes, three whole weeks. Three whole weeks. That is longer than I have ever been without running in the last 10 plus years, since I became a proper runner.
My much anticipated meeting the kidney specialist took place this evening; I had been looking forward to this so much! Having an evening appointment was great for me as I didn’t have to take time off work.
I can’t tell you enough how wonderful it is to be home from hospital. Eventually I was discharged on Tuesday afternoon after quite a lot of waiting and being a “patient patient”. Yesterday I was so pleased having a visit from my friend Paul here in hospital: such encouragement! I always like our banter which included being greeted by being told “ you look so institutionalised Doug”.
Following on from yesterday’s delayed discharge, I have been moved. There I was at 5:00am enjoying being fast asleep and I was abruptly woken up. Reminds me of prisoners telling me about their “ghosting out” experiences where they were bundled into a prison van and transferred elsewhere when it was least expected.
Talk about confusion. Everything was looking good for my discharge today. Blood tests heading the right way, urine flowing through my kidneys nicely with the colour returning to normal.
